30 years ago, when reform and opening-up policy was spread in China, I followed the trend of studying abroad

and went to Japan to explore an unknown world and started a long journey in foreign countries.

After obtaining a master's degree from the Graduate School of Musashino Art University in Japan, I began to

hold exhibitions as an independent art creator in art museums and galleries across Japan. Reflecting the

anxiety, confusion, and introspection on the choice of life path, the works created in this period mainly

include the series of “Where to Go” and “Travelers” (reference: Cai Guohua’s Retrospective Exhibition

on Ten-year Journey in Japan-China Art Museum, Shanghai, 1998), which are dominated by group

portraits to represent the uneasiness and anxiety of human about the future.

After that, I started to travel around the world every year for sketching as a genuine traveling painter. Among

those places, Europe is my favorite. Those world heritages, epic grand architectures, and streets & alleys

with profound cultural deposits in Italy, France, Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Czech Republic, Germany,

Spain, the Netherlands, and other places in Europe all attracted me to wave the brush passionately without

stop. I lingered in the classical charm of the Middle Ages and felt grateful for the historical treasures left by

the preceding artists. In the meantime, the creation and thinking during the journey made me realize the joy,

anger, sorrow, and happiness of life more deeply. The in-depth experience and observation of diverse

cultures enhanced my different understandings of humanities and beliefs. All of the above left a profound

influence on my later artistic creation.

The mentality and choice for my life journey are to paint while traveling and visit while painting. I am honored

to hold this exhibition at U Gallery in Beijing 798 Art Zone, which will open another journey of my painting life.
